Get Involved

Make the most of your NIC experience. Connect with fellow students and participate in activities, councils and student-led events.

Student Lounges and Drop-in Meetings

Indigenous student lounges are a place for Indigenous students to connect with each other and advisors. Coffee, tea, and snacks are provided, along with computer access and work tables. Drop in to plan an event, study, or discuss your education and career goals with an advisor.

Events and Conferences

NIC has hosted drum-making workshops, welcoming feasts, luncheons, the Indigenous Voices and Visions series, and gatherings for emotional and spiritual wellness. Contact an Indigenous Education Navigator to discuss possible events and workshops for fellow students, staff, and the community.

Gathering Places

Gathering Places are separate structures from Indigenous Student Lounges, and are located at NIC’s Port Alberni and Campbell River campuses. They are home to many ceremonies, celebrations, and classes and are open for use by all faculty, staff and students throughout the year.

Regional Aboriginal Advisory Committees

Regional Aboriginal Advisory Committees help NIC develop, deliver, and create the strongest possible programs, services, and support for Indigenous residents. Indigenous students are invited to take part. Participation is voluntary and there is no need for election. For more information, contact an Indigenous Education Navigator
