I was born in the Queen Charlottes in a logging camp. My father was the maintenance man for the camp. We moved out of the Charlottes when I was young and I grew up in the BC Lower Mainland.
I worked on the family farm untill we moved into Burnaby were I took a job with Ryder Truck Rental when I turned 16. I worked there for 16 years, becoming a licenced commercial transport mechanic and one of the foremen.
I left Ryder Truck to begin teaching at BCIT were I worked for 12 years, becoming the chief instructor and then the manager for the Heavy Equipment Division where I was responsible for all aspects of the Great Northern Way Campus and its program offerings including the railway program, the BCIT- Marine Campus in North Van, the Diesel Engine Mechanics program at Rutlad Senior Secondary in Kelowna and a Heavy Duty Foundation program in a Dawson Creek high school.
I then left BCIT to buy a property in the gulf Islands and open my own business, Hornby lsland Mechanical and Towing, which I successfully ran for six years. I have a comprehensive mechanical and electronic knowledge and experience in the commercial transport, heavy duty, diesel engine, automotive, marine and railway Industries.
