Chartered Professional Accountant, CPA-CGA
My history with North Island College started in 1990 at a time when the College offered only distance courses. I have had the great privilege to watch the college grow into the dynamic community organization it is today and am proud of my role in establishing our first degree (BBA, Accounting Major). In the classroom today I teach both financial and managerial accounting at the fundamental, intermediate and advanced levels within that degree. Because I realize the value of incorporating real-world examples in my classes I have constantly kept myself up-to-date by working with public accounting firms, sitting on not-for-profit boards as treasurer, teaching at other institutions (VIU and CPABC) as well as attending and presenting at teaching, learning and accounting conferences. My teaching philosopy depends on the nature of the course and the students enrolled in it. For fundamental courses I stress the user aspect of accounting, making it my goal to have students understand the role of accounting in business and finance. For the intermediate and advanced courses, that are highly technical, I strive to develop strong research, analytical, technical and communication skills in my students.

I am always looking for ways to give back to my community. The Rotary Club of Comox is where I have found like-minded business folk to work with. I was honored to be asked to become their treasurer this year. Check out some of the good things we are up to.
