NIC’s Write Here Readers’ Series returns Wednesday, September 20, with award-winning Canadian poet and editor, Adèle Barclay.

Barclay’s debut poetry collection, If I Were in a Cage I’d Reach Out for You won the 2017 Dorothy Livesay Poetry Prize. The prize is awarded to the BC author with the best work of poetry published in the preceding year.

Barclay is an accomplished writer, editor, researcher and teacher. Her work has appeared in numerous publications, including The Fiddlehead, The Puritan, PRISM International and the Literary Review of Canada.

She is also the recipient of the 2016 Lit POP Award for Poetry and the 2016 Walrus Readers’ Choice Award for Poetry. She is also the 2017 Critic-in-Residence for Canadian Women in Literary Arts and the Rusty Talk Editor at The Rusty Toque.

Barclay’s reading takes place at Cornerstone Café & Taphouse in Courtenay, starting at 7 pm. Admission is free and all are welcome.

NIC’s Write Here Readers’ Series showcases the richness of literary arts in our region, offering students and community members the opportunity to hear, meet and discuss ideas with some of Canada’s top writers.

It is developed annually by NIC’s English Department, which offers a wide variety of creative writing classes across the region, including of fiction and non-fiction, poetry, drama and screenplays, providing opportunities for students to connect and build their own portfolio of work.

NIC also offers creative writing courses through its School of Continuing Education, including a Creative Writing Workshop (GENI-2335) in October and for Creative Writing for Beginners (GENI-2336) in February.

The Write Here Reader Series continues throughout the fall and winter. The next reading features Anita Anand, September 28 in Tyee Hall, at NIC’s Comox Valley campus. For details on future events, visit www.nic.bc.ca.
