NIC kicks off college year in Port Alberni

New and returning students are invited to NIC’s Port Alberni campus Tuesday, Sep. 3 for Orientation Day.

Students can find out more about the campus, meet their instructors and classmates and get prepared for the start of classes.

“Orientation Day is a celebration for students, staff and faculty as we start a new academic year,” said Felicity Blaiklock, director of student affairs and campus administrator at the Port Alberni campus. “It’s a chance for everyone to get set up and ready to go for the beginning of classes the following day.”

This fall, NIC will welcome students to the Port Alberni campus and Tebo Vocational centre in a variety of programs, including trades training, health care, early childhood care and education, business, upgrading, university studies and more.

Orientation Day begins with program introductions so students can meet their instructors and classmates, followed by workshops on key tools and resources available to students throughout their time at NIC.

“There are so many resources available to help students here at NIC,” said Blaiklock. “Whether it’s help with study skills, how to write an essay, learning about the Library or getting set up to use our online learning tools, students will be introduced to those resources and meet the staff who are here to provide support throughout their time at NIC.”

Orientation Day will be followed up with welcome barbeque on Thursday, Sep. 5 at the Roger Street campus, starting at 11 am. Students can participate in games, win prizes and learn more about NIC services and community organizations while enjoying the free lunch.

While classes begin on Wednesday, Sep. 4, registration is still available for prospective students until Sep. 12.
