The annual lectures are hosted by the Community Justice Centre in partnership with NIC.
The topic of Wilson-Raybould’s lecture is ‘Taking a New Approach to Criminal Justice: Reconciliation and Restorative Justice.’
Wilson-Raybould is Canada’s first Indigenous minister of justice. She previously served as a Crown prosecutor in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside and later became an advisor then commissioner of the BC Treaty Commission.
Prior to federal politics, she was also elected regional chief of the BC Assembly of First Nations, a position she held from 2009 until 2015.
Raybould-Wilson is an advocate for evidence-based criminal justice policy, including upholding judges’ sentencing discretion and looking at crime and punishment from multiple perspectives.
As justice minister, Raybould-Wilson is also focused on moving forward with the government’s commitment to implement all 94 recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and fully implementing the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

A dinner for Wilson-Raybould will also be held at 5 pm in the Native Sons Hall in Courtenay (next to the Sid Williams) prior to the lecture. A no-host bar will begin serving drinks at 5 pm, with dinner scheduled to begin at 5:30 pm.

Past guest speakers at the Annual Campagnolo Lectures in Restorative Justice include former governor general Adrienne Clarkson and former chief justice Beverley McLachlin.
