This project will help protect human food safety through the development of a rapid screening assay for viruses in the cultured oyster. This assay will test oyster samples as an early warning for shellfish growers.

Dr. Ahmed Siah, Lead Researcher
Dr. Ahmed Siah is a molecular biologist who pursued his Postdoctoral studies at the University of Le Havre in France after earning his PhD in Oceanography at the Institute of Marine Sciences in Rimouski, Quebec. He specializes in developing new technologies in the field of aquatic health diagnostics and implementing and validating molecular biology technologies for diagnostics.

Chayton Skye took part in this project while doing his first year of studies at North Island College.
