NIC's Roger Street Bistro in Port Alberni is Open to the Public

Enjoy a selection of freshly made comfort foods from NIC's Professional Cook Level 1 students at the Roger Street Bistro located on the Port Alberni campus.

Where: Comox Valley Library & Learning Commons

Construction for Phase 2 of the Comox Valley Library & Learning Commons is beginning on April 21st and is expected to continue until mid-August. 
The Library & Learning Commons will remain open during construction.
Please note the following service changes during the construction period: 
  • The Library Computer Lab will be inaccessible. Computers will be located along the wall at the front of the book stacks. 
  • Small Group Rooms will be inaccessible. Hawthorn and Arbutus will be open to groups of all sizes and can still be booked online. Tutoring is available in D222. 
  • Silent Study Room will be inaccessible. The Library has both noise-cancelling headphones and disposable ear plugs available at the Lending Services desk. 
  • Group Study Area will be inaccessible. Please consider booking one of the group study rooms or ask at the Lending Services desk for locations of available classrooms.

Activity Assistant Program (GENI 5120)

Are you a Health Care or Community Support Grad (HCA, HSRCA, LPN, RN, or Education Assistant/ Community Support)? If so, you qualify for admission to this specialized part-time program available this fall in the Comox Valley: Learn to plan/lead recreational activities; and rekindle meaning, purpose, and emotional enjoyment in the lives of seniors with cognitive and physical impairments. Increase your employment options in care facilities, assisted living settings, clients' homes, seniors' centres, and residential group homes. Study part-time while you work. Finish in less than four months.

Early Childhood Care & Education Opportunities

Metal Jewellery Design: Tuition Credit Contest

With Metal Jewellery Design at NIC, you'll be able to explore professional metal techniques, gemmology and more as you prepare to work in the jewellery industry. Learn to conceptualize and create jewellery for artistic expression or as a source of income, and gain business skills to present and promote your designs.

The exhibition FUSE showcases the artwork produced by emerging artists in their second year of study in NIC's Fine Arts diploma. Artworks featured in FUSE represent the culmination of many hours of study, practice and exchanges. The work explores various modes of representation, personal histories, theories and language. The artists are connected through the synthesis of their shared experience in the Fine Arts program. We invite you to gather with us to celebrate this shared creative process. 

Join us for our opening reception and artist talk, Friday April 28, 5 - 7 pm. The studio will be open for public viewings April 28,1 to 7pm and May 1 to 19, 9 am to 4 pm.

Gather Fine Arts Exhibit

Gather is a fine arts diploma student exhibition that enfolds the work of Emily Carr and NIC senior and graduating visual arts students.

Gain in-demand skills employers are looking for.

Starting this spring, university students can combine their theoretical knowledge with relevant business skills by enrolling in condensed six week courses transferable to universities across BC.

Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management (BUS-152) 

This course provides students with a broad range of basic business skills. Topics include business plan development, legal issues of business start-up and management, financing, marketing, and basic record keeping for a small business venture.

Effective Organizational Writing (ENG-160) 

English 160 is an applied writing course which recognizes the increasing importance of effective writing, speaking, reading and listening in the workplace. This course focuses on the study and application of the theories and principles of effective business communication.

Introduction to Social Media (IMG-220)

The adoption of social media by both individuals and organizations has triggered a shift in marketing practices globally. This introductory course will present current channels, tools and technologies that are used in social media. It will look at marketing, monetization, strategies, monitoring, metrics and governance. This course aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills to effectively explore the opportunities and challenges associated with the use of social media channels and platforms - including those associated with enriched business communication, marketing strategies, and enhanced brand experience.

Join Campbell River ElderCollege for its Annual General Meeting.
