What:     Fall readiings with Matthew HootonMatthew Hooton
Where:  Stan Hagen Theatre
When:    Thursday, Oct. 14 at 7:30 pm
Cost:       Free

Award-winning author Matthew Hooton brings his literary skills from the Bath Literature Festival to North Island College Oct. 14 at a free reading for  NIC students and the public.

His novel, Deloume Road, received critical acclaim across from Dublin to Toronto and beyond last year.

Hooton grew up on Vancouver Island and obtained a BA in Writing from the University of Victoria. He went on to publish non-fiction in several Canadian newspapers and magazines, before moving to England and completing an MA inCreative Writing at Bath Spa University, where Deloume Road was unanimously awarded the inaugural Greene & Heaton Prize for the best novel to emerge from the Bath Spa MA in Creative Writing.

He has read fiction at the Bath Literature Festival, has worked as an editor and teacher in several cities in South Korea, and now  lives with his wife in Victoria.

Don't just take our word for it, read his reviews here:

"The risk-taking is refreshing … Hooton's gift is [in] recreating a wilderness…Deloume Road garnered Hooton a prestigious prize for best novel to emerge from the masters writing program at Bath Spa University, in England. For the fledgling novelist, … it's a deserved honour. Not only for creating a magnificent boy antihero, but for artfully sustaining a tale of misplaced honour and a resulting sorrow as old as the woods."  —The Globe and Mail

"The small Vancouver Island community of Deloume [is] flawlessly and spellbindingly described … Deloume may be too wild to tame, but onto your nightstand." —Telegraph-Journal
