Encouraging Growth and Achievement through the Gift of Education

North Island College Foundation is dedicated to supporting North Island College in achieving excellence and service to our communities.

The North Island College Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting North Island College in its task of providing the skills and knowledge students need for successful employment and further education. The Foundation’s primary objective is to provide student scholarships and bursaries, as well as operating equipment and educational resources.

Through the continued support of individuals, local businesses, and organizations committed to assisting students, these efforts are realized.

Individuals and businesses are invited to share in the vision of North Island College by making a contribution towards a brighter future for our communities.

SCHOLARSHIPS & BURSARIES

North Island College is committed to ensuring that every student has sufficient funding to complete their studies. Many students face significant financial barriers, often relying on student loans, full and/or part-time jobs, and family members to fund the costs of tuition, books and equipment, and living expenses. At North Island College, over 50% of our students receive some form of financial assistance, be it in the form of scholarships, bursaries provided by community organizations or individuals, student loans and emergency bursaries, and often a combination of all three.

North Island College boasts the lowest tuition rate among colleges in the country; however, we also have one of the highest numbers of students requiring financial assistance every year.

In 2008, you, our donors and supporters, helped provide more than $160,000 to 275 NIC students. Additional funding for awards is always needed. With the cost of education rising and the numbers of students relying on student loans increasing, the North Island College Foundation has made a commitment to students to actively pursue donations that support scholarships and bursaries.

Scholarships and bursaries are rewards for jobs well done, motivators when the going gets tough and meaningful inspiration to continue learning. As one of student recipients wrote in her thank you note, “Receiving this scholarship motivates me to achieve my goals. I look forward to giving back to my college and to my community. I thank you for your confidence and willingness to invest in me.”

Scholarships are monetary awards that recognize academic achievement, while bursaries are monetary gifts provided to students to assist them with expenses incurred while pursuing their educational goals.

You can invest in the future by helping to create more student awards at North Island College. Please contact us today to find out how you can give a “gift of education.”

CIRCLE OF GIVING

Education is a community effort.

We believe that education is very much a community effort. At North Island College, this statement rings so very true because were it not for the financial support provided by North Island College’s community of donors, many of our students would not be able to attend our college. The support our donors offer is extraordinary.

In giving to North Island College Foundation, your donations directly assist our students in the pursuit of their educational goals.

Together, we are building stronger communities because our students most often choose to stay and work in our communities. Our alumnus includes doctors, artists, lawyers, scholars, teachers, electricians, accountants, nurses, pharmacists, recreation assistants, welders, recreation programmers, first aid attendants, plumbers, business owners, and the list goes on.

Whether an award results from the fundraising efforts of a community organization, an individual’s wish to make a difference, or a company’s desire to promote and encourage training, every donation benefits students first, and in turn has a long-term impact on the economic and social development of our communities. It is an enriching and empowering circle within which the NIC Foundation operates – a circle that begins with your generous act. Please contact us today to find out how you can become part of the circle.

GIFTS IN KIND

North Island College Foundation actively cultivates relationships with organizations and individuals to provide equipment and learning resources for use in many of our program areas.

Donations of equipment, materials, services or other supplies provide tangible support for North Island College programs. Every year, thousands of dollars in goods such as motors, vehicles, airplane floats, program supplies and artwork are donated. These gifts are of great value and are eligible for the same kinds of tax benefits and recognition as other gifts to North Island College Foundation.

A gift-in-kind is a non-cash donation and includes items such as, but not limited to, books, equipment, artwork, and real estate. NIC Foundation will gladly accept any gifts-in-kind for which there is a use at the College. Once the gift is appraised, a donation receipt will be issued for the fair market value of the gift.

CAPITAL CAMPAIGNS

From time to time, the North Island College Foundation embarks on capital campaigns to offset the costs associated with new building construction, needed equipment, and learning resources.

Thank you, this bursary is much more than financial aid. It is encouragement towards my goals… I will become a teacher you can be proud of supporting.
