NIC Board of Governors Approves 2007-2008 Budget

The North Island College Board of Governors approved a balanced 2007-2008 budget at its March Board meeting. The College’s fiscal year runs from April 1 to March 31. Although the College has not yet received its final budget letters from the Ministry of Advanced Education and the Industry Training Authority, it has received reliable interim budget notices on which the Board based its decision.

The $27 million dollar budget includes a block grant from the Ministry of Advanced Education of approximately $19.75 million for 2007- 2008 – an increase of approximately $611,000. The grant funds 2,214 student FTEs (full-time equivalents).

The budget includes a 2% lift in student tuition which will see students paying a modest increase of $45.00 more per year. The tuition fee lift is basically a cost of living increase and still leaves NIC with the lowest student tuition on Vancouver Island.

Students attending North Island College choose from over 800 courses and programs including University Studies, Fine Arts, Trades, Health, Information Technology, Business, Tourism and more. The College’s Associate Degrees earn students a two-year block of credit transferable to BC universities. For more information about NIC’s programs visit our website at www.nic.bc.ca.
