Do you love wine? If so, you will not want to miss the upcoming wine appreciation series at North Island College’s Comox Valley and Campbell River Campuses. Whether you are a new or experienced taster, these classes will give you valuable insight into the world of wine.
In the Comox Valley, join wine consultant John Challender, and gourmet chef, Dawn McRae, in an exploration of food and wine pairings. Discover the elements of food and wine while connecting complementary combinations. The series involves hands-on pairings of fish and red meat, an exploration of ‘West Coast’ cuisine and Asian influences, and concludes with a grande finale of desserts, sweet and savoury, and the wines that best support them. The three-class series is offered Tuesdays for three weeks, beginning October 16th and ending October 30th. Cost is $170 and includes the cost of wine tasting and food sampling.
In Campbell River, join wine consultant Jason Hyde on a journey where you will learn how to approach wine tasting, develop your sensory skills and describe wines. In each class, Jason will uncork six different wines. He will bring a selection of rare and hard to find wines, including a few from BC’s finest boutique wineries. Introduction to Wines will explore the history of wine and look at the world’s most common wine growing regions and different grape varietals. Old World Versus New World Wines will explore the difference between Old World (France, Italy, Germany) and New World (North and South America, Australia) wines, while Holiday Food and Wine Pairing will prepare you for the holiday season by introducing you to the basic rules of food and wine pairing. Classes begin on Thursday, October 18th and are offered every two weeks, concluding November 15th. Cost for each class is $46 and includes the cost of wine tasting.
