North Island College signed an agreement with Malaspina University-College today that will see NIC students who have completed their first two years at NIC guaranteed admission into the 3rd year of Malaspina’s Bachelor of Education program.
According to Dr. Martin Petter, NIC’s Vice President, Education, the purpose of the agreement is to facilitate the success of students from the North Island College region who wish to pursue their Education degree at Malaspina University-College.
“It is North Island College’s belief that students from our region benefit from the kind of education that we offer – the smaller class sizes, the personalized services and support, and the one-on-one interaction with faculty – and this experience better prepares them for success at the university-college level,” explains Petter.
Dr. Harry Janzen, Malaspina’s Dean of Education, adds “Keeping students in their home communities for the first two years of their post-secondary education allows them to build networks within the local school districts, assisting them when completing their field experiences and when looking for a position after completing their degree.”
The Pathways for Teacher in Training Agreement is a direct result of a comprehensive partnership between North Island College and Malaspina University-College that has already seen the establishment of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and the Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies at NIC. This Agreement offers NIC students an opportunity that is both easily accessible and in high demand. Students must only complete two full years of study (60 credits of university transferable programming) at NIC to be eligible for guaranteed admission into the third year of Malaspina’s program.
