North Island College is pleased to announce that the Academy of Emergency Training will offer its Primary Care Paramedic program at NIC’s Vigar Road Vocational Centre in Campbell River, beginning January 14th, 2008.
The Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) program is the second level of paramedic training. The program focuses on the skills required to assess and manage patients in a pre-hospital care environment. It delivers a strong foundation in anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology to strengthen the decision-making and treatment actions required to care for critically ill or injured patients.
The PCP program is taught by experts and specialists from various medical disciplines – paramedics, nurses, respiratory therapists and physicians – employing the most current medical information and training techniques available. Clinical time and ambulance preceptorship assist with the integration of classroom learning into field practice.
Successful graduates will receive Primary Care Paramedic Certification from the AET Paramedic Academy and will be eligible to apply for paramedic licensure within British Columbia through the Emergency Medical Assistant Licensing Branch.
Applicants must be 19 years of age or older and have a Canadian Grade 12 diploma or equivalent. Additional mandatory requirements include a current Emergency Medical Responder Certificate, Occupational First Aid: Level III or equivalent; a current CPR Level C-Pro or HCP certificate; a valid B.C. Driver’s License (Class 1, 2 or 4); Driver’s Record Search; Criminal Record Check; up-to-date immunizations; completion of a Medical Assessment Form; and the legal entitlement to work in Canada.
