Can Non-Fiction also be Creative?

It certainly can.  Beginning in January, North Island College will teach you how to write your true stories in a way that engages readers and attracts publishers.  Creative non-fiction uses the techniques of fiction to develop character, plot, setting and image. Learn to portray real life experiences with the power of cinema while maintaining the integrity of fact.

Whether you are interested in creative essay writing, documentary, biography, memoir, travel writing, or writing for arts and science, English 207 will explore writing that is inventive rather than invented.  Class time will be divided between discussion of the craft of creative non-fiction, in-class writing exercises and workshops exploring writers’ work.  Participants may also share their work aloud and at the conclusion of the session, all writers will have created a portfolio of work.

English 207: Creative Non-Fiction begins in the Comox Valley on Monday, January 7th and in Campbell River on Tuesday, January 8th.  Both classes will be offered in the evening from 6:00 – 9:00 pm.  English 207 is a second year university studies course and as such, prospective students must meet minimum prerequisites or submit a portfolio.
