Overview
Immerse yourself in the Coastal Log Scaling program, where you'll gain practical, hands-on experience in the forestry industry. Through a blend of online lectures, guided home study, and in-field practice, you’ll master weight scaling procedures, log grading, species identification, and equipment maintenance, all while learning essential safety practices.
This eight-month part-time program prepares you to confidently take the Ministry of Forests’ Coastal Log Scaling Exam. Graduates are equipped for scaling positions across the forestry sector, from government roles to private industry. With both virtual and off-campus lessons, you’ll develop the expertise needed to excel in this critical field.
The field work portion of this program will take place in the Nanaimo area on Saturdays/Sundays for 12 weeks. Students must arrange for their own transportation to Nanaimo. Most of the time will be spent in the field on dry-land log sorts learning and practicing skills.
