NIC Turns 40

In 2008, Tom Hill was one of 2230 TimberWest workers laid off from the Campbell River mill. At 45, the single dad was faced with looking for work out of province, or trying to find another job in Campbell River. "This community is so important in our lives," he said. "It wasn't an option for us to leave." The day he heard about the pending closure he drove straight to NIC on his way home from work. "I didn't even know what door to go in," he said...

Serving Up Success

Dining at Dolphins Resort? You’ll be surrounded by graduates from NIC’s Professional Cook and Tourism
and Hospitality Management

The resort is gaining a reputation as one of Campbell River’s best places to eat, thanks to Executive Chef Joe Volk and his wife Carmen Amberson, who runs the resort’s front-end operations.

“We seek out NIC trained chefs and tourism students because they have the practical training we need,” said Amberson. “We know because we went there.”
