Glacial History of the Comox Valley

This class will explore the role glaciation has played in the evolution of the Comox Valley landscape, as well as Vancouver Island as a whole. We will use local examples of landforms and features to discuss concepts such as uniformitarianism and superposition, isostacy and sea level rise, mass balance and ice advance/retreat, climate record proxies, and others. Time permitting, a walkthrough at the Cumberland Sand and Gravel pit can be organized for the final lecture.
