Halifax, the largest city in Atlantic Canada, possesses one of the world's greatest harbours. First fortified in 1749, it quickly became an important military centre, and remains one. Britain's NA stronghold became a Canadian Citadel. Halifax played a role in the American Revolution, War of 1812 and Civil War. It was involved in the Titanic disaster, survived a vast civic explosion, and a hub in both World Wars plus the Cold War.
