The Office of Global Engagement acknowledges the traditional territories of the combined 35 First Nations of the Nuu-chah-nulth, Kwakwaka’wakw and Coast Salish traditions, on whose traditional and unceded territories the College’s campuses are situated. Read our Journeying Together plan to get a better understanding how we are working to indigenize the internationalization process at NIC.
We currently support more than 500 international students and more than 20 exchange students from over 37 countries who have made Vancouver Island their home away from home.
For NIC students seeking to immerse themselves in another culture, there are various opportunities to study and work abroad through our office. We also offer a range of workshops, activities and events to celebrate and create awareness of our diversity. OGE staff and faculty are dedicated to supporting student success.

Our Team
Mark Herringer, Executive Director, International Education, Office of Global Engagement
Responsible for the development and implementation of our indigenizing internationalization plan Journeying Together, and global engagement initiatives. These include: Indigenizing internationalization; internationalization at home; education abroad; international recruitment and student support; and international projects and partnerships.
Angie Price, Manager, International Student Services
Oversees student services functions relating to international students studying at NIC and supports admissions, finance, engagement and advising including RISIA related advice.
Junko Leclair, Manager, International Enrolment and Recruitment, Office of Global Engagement
Responsible for the development, execution and management of a comprehensive international recruitment, marketing and enrolment plan, as well as support and provide oversight for the recruitment efforts of NIC overseas representatives and agents.
Romana Pasca, Manager International Projects, Partnerships and Global Education
Responsible for the implementation and development of international partnerships, joint programs, international projects, short-term incoming and outgoing opportunities for students, global classroom opportunities, and staff/faculty exchange.
Agalya Kathirvelu, Advisor, International Student Success
Supports students in program and course selection, accessing support services on campus, and advises on Study Permits. Assistance is available in English, Tamil and Malayalam.
Eduardo Mendez, Advisor, International Student Success
Supports students in program and course selection, accessing support services on campus, and advises on Study Permits. Assistance is available in English and Spanish.
Katie Phelan, Communications Specialist
Responsible for international recruitment agent and representative relations, communication, marketing and event planning, and assists prospective students with general inquiries.
Mike Hillian, Global Engagement Liaison, Comox Valley
Responsible for organizing internationalization activities, coordinating new student orientation, study abroad, and assists with the development of short-term contract training programming with international partners.
Renae Leboe, Global Engagement Liaison, Campbell River
Responsible for organizing internationalization activities, coordinating new student orientation, study abroad, and assists with the development of short-term contract training programming with international partners.
Markella Gionet, Administrative Assistant to the Executive Director
Provides administrative support to the Executive Director in support of their involvement in internal and external committees along with international clients, agencies and partners.

Works with faculty to support the integration of global perspectives, cultural understanding and empathy into the teaching and learning functions of the college.
