$290,000 in NIC scholarships and bursaries now available

Don’t miss your opportunity to apply for $290,000 in scholarships and bursaries available now at NIC.

The NIC Foundation has 350 awards, valued from $110 up to $3,000 each, this year to help new, continuing and graduating students achieve their academic and career goals.

With one online application, students could be eligible for awards based on their academic performance, financial need, career interests or community involvement.

“When we support the dreams of our students, we give them a chance to build a solid future for themselves and their families,” said Robert Buckley, NIC Foundation Board Chair and donor. “In turn, they become our nurses, accountants, teachers, electricians, artists, business owners and so on, supporting the strength and growth of our communities.”

The money represents a significant investment in North Island students and communities and addresses a tangible need.

“NIC students have tremendous talent and potential,” Buckley added. “Helping them achieve their goals is a great honour.”

Since 1991, the NIC Foundation has provided $1.95 million to more than 3,750 students throughout the college region. For many of the students, attending college would not have been possible were it not for this generosity.

A number of dedicated donors support students each year. This year, NIC welcomes several new Comox Valley contributors, including the Atterton-White Family, Berkenstock Family, Canada 150 Celebration Fund, Chris Day Memorial, Comox Valley Lions Club, CV Sports & Social Club, Inspired Women’s Award, Ralph Shaw Conservation Award, Rotary Clubs of Comox Valley Literacy Round Table and the Ruth Masters “Hero Spoon” Legacy.

Randall Heidt, NIC’s Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, thanks the growing number of families and organizations for their support.

“These awards help many deserving students each year,” he said. “They are available to students in all programming areas at every NIC campus. Whether you are coming to NIC directly from high school or are retraining for a new career, there’s something for everyone.”

The award application deadline is April 30, 2017. Visit foundation.nic.bc.ca/students for an awards list and online application form.
