$60,000 in NIC awards available to Oceanside students

Pieter de Reuver and Salud Espiritu, centre, of the Pieter de Reuver Foundation are surrounded by NIC Foundation board members and some of the 65 NIC students they supported with scholarships and bursaries in 2018.

Students in School District 69 now have access to $60,000 in scholarships and bursaries to attend North Island College, thanks to the Pieter de Reuver Foundation.

Students from the Parksville and Qualicum Beach areas can apply for the awards on the NIC Foundation website until April 24, 2019.

“We are overjoyed to be working with Pieter and Salud again to help Oceanside students reach their educational and career goals at NIC,” said Randall Heidt, NIC vice president of strategic initiatives. “The Pieter de Reuver Foundation has already helped many NIC students and their families improve their lives through education. Pieter is a really great guy, who really believes in youth and wants to help them reach their full potential by gaining the knowledge and acquiring the skills they need to succeed.”

The awards are available to students coming directly from high school, students retraining for a new career as well as those who are in the middle of programs and who are current or former Oceanside residents.

“It’s so important to support students and help them get the best education possible,” said de Reuver. “I’ve heard from past recipients about what these awards mean to them, and it means a lot to me to be able to give back to students from this community.”

The award application deadline is April 24, 2019. Visit foundation.nic.bc.ca/students for instructions on how to apply and the online application form.
