Buckley, Moyes lead NIC Foundation

The NIC Foundation Board of Directors is pleased to announce the recent re-election of Robert Buckley as its chair.

Buckley is the branch manager at the Coastal Community Credit Union and a long-time Rotarian, who has volunteered on the NIC Foundation board for the last six years.

Also elected to the executive was co-owner of the Blackfin Pub Lisa Moyes as vice chair.

“With Robert and Lisa at the forefront, we couldn’t be in more passionate hands,” said Randall Heidt, NIC’s Vice President of Strategic Initiatives.

Well-known NIC ElderCollege volunteer Ilona Horgen was elected as NIC Foundation secretary, while NIC business alumna and local CPA, CA with Presley and Partners, Kathryn Jones was elected treasurer.

Garry Griffin, Dale Pateman, Bill Parkinson, Dave Procter and Jonathan Veale return to the board, while Mary Lovely and Brett Woodside are new members.

“We have an outstanding board filled with impressive people who are dedicated to student success,” said Chair Robert Buckley. “We are more energetic and focused than ever.”

The NIC Foundation created a wish list on its new website, highlighting needed classroom equipment for students. The equipment can be named in honour of a loved one or company. Prices start at $50 and all donations are tax deductible.

“Buying equipment is a great way to support an entire class of students for several years,” Buckley said. “We toured the NIC nursing labs recently and saw all of the amazing equipment they utilize but there is always a need to upgrade and improve technology.”

The North Island College Foundation works in partnership with individuals and community organizations to provide scholarships and bursaries to students. Over the past 25 years, generous donors have provided more than $1.9 million in scholarships and bursaries to nearly 4,000 students region-wide.

The NIC Foundation is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to supporting student success, education and community growth through NIC. Its board is made up of community members, NIC alumni and instructors who know how much community support improves students’ lives.
