My instructors were persistent in showing me that there is always room for improvement and ways to expand my creativity in every single piece I produced. Even though I spent only two years at NIC in the diploma program, I left the program already feeling prepared for the ups and downs that I might run into on my pathway into the art world.

This pathway is a great choice for anyone interested in completing a degree in visual arts or graphic design. North Island College's agreement with VIU guarantees our diploma graduates receive credit towards a degree at VIU.

The transfer credit agreements allow NIC students to gain admission to VIU based on completion of first and second-year credits at NIC. This means a better chance of admission for mature students, people who may not have completed their Grade 12 year, or students who may not have met admission requirements to VIU prior to studying at NIC.

Requirements

  • Graduates of NIC’s Fine Arts Diploma who have completed 60 credits with an average of C (2.0) or higher will be considered for admission to Year 3 of the VIU’s Bachelor of Arts (Visual Art major) with the same registration priority as continuing VIU students. Admission is conditional based on available seats.

  • Graduates of NIC’s Communication Design Interactive Media Diploma who have completed 60 credits with an average of C (2.0) or higher, and a minimum grade of C or higher in each individual course completed in their diploma will be considered for admission to Year 3 of the VIU’s Bachelor of Arts (Graphic Design major) with the same registration priority as continuing VIU students. Admission is conditional based on available seats.
