Ground-Breaking Programs
At NIC, the innovative use of science and technology is the cornerstone of success.
Take, for example, NIC’s Space Science and Astronomy courses. Using the Tatla Lake
On-line Observatory (TLOO), students from around the world are able to remotely
access a research-quality telescope to gather and analyze data right from their
home computer. NIC’s Space Science and Astronomy courses are the only university-level
lab science courses in BC that can be completed entirely online.
The Right Tools for the Job
At NIC, students enjoy access to up-to-date technology and high-quality facilities.
From powerful microscopes to our Meade LX200 GPS telescope, the tools you need to
learn about the world are waiting here for you.
Aquatic Sciences
NIC, the BC Centre for Aquatic Health Science and the National Institute for Water
and Atmospheric Research in New Zealand are currently collaborating on Building
Aquatic Science Capacity in Aboriginal Communities. During the program, Aboriginal
youth in four locations will interact with Maori and other aquatic scientists, and
be provided with opportunities to learn about the field of aquatic sciences.
Making Science Accessible
NIC, in collaboration with College of the Rockies, Tatlayoko Think Tank Ltd., Tatla
Lake School and Thompson Rivers University, is working to develop an entirely web-based
Associate of Science degree program. For people in remote communities, this revolutionary
program will allow them to remotely participate in lab courses, providing them with
the option of obtaining a science education.
