Experience new Trades Training Opportunities at NIC

They say it takes a community to build a community and NIC's new $8.2-million Trades Training Centre at the Comox Valley campus is no exception. With valued support from government, industry, local businesses at every level, we're proud to announce its arrival.

It's our honour to present Vancouver Island with an astoundingly beautiful building where professional qualified instructors will inspire 160 students annually on their path to becoming home-grown trades people.

As the Comox Valley's first LEED-gold registered building, we're also making sure local resources are sustainable. Read about the centre's unique green features in the Grand Opening publication below.

Carpenter Apprenticeships

The Trades Training Centre brings never before offered programs such as Carpenter Apprenticeship Training to the North Island. With four levels of training in the Comox Valley, skilled carpenters save money and time while learning in one of BC's best facilities.

The Third Course Bistro

The Third Course bistro allows guests to experience quality service in a unique atmosphere, created by both the tourism and culinary students. Students in the Tourism and Hospitality Management program are responsible for operating and serving in the bistro, and the incredible menu selection is created by the culinary students. For more information, visit the Third Course bistro.

Cutting-edge Marine Training

Learn to navigate the seas on NIC's new marine simulators, the only high-tech equipment of their kind north of Victoria using programs unique to the BC Coast. In NIC's Marine Training program students can drop anchor on a 40,000-ton transport ship, hook a tugboat to a barge, or sail a high speed yacht in BC’s best, and worst, sea conditions.

Plumbing Starts at NIC

Students in the Plumbing and Piping Foundation program earn apprenticeship technical training towards their Interprovincial (Red Seal) certification.

Dual Credit

Earn credit towards high school graduation and entry level trades training programs at NIC at the same time. Ask your high school counsellor about the ACE-IT program or find out more by contacting an NIC student advisor.
