College Bookstores
North Island College bookstores provide a wide range of services to the NIC community,
with stores located in the Campbell River, Comox Valley, and Port Alberni campuses.
In addition to textbooks and other learning resources, the stores sell a selection
of trade books, stationery and school supplies, art supplies, greeting cards, gifts,
snacks and convenience goods. Gift certificates and NIC logo products are also available.
As a member of the Campus Stores Canada and the Canadian Booksellers Association,
we are committed to providing professional service and fair pricing, offering Canadian-made
products whenever possible. Revenue from bookstore operations helps support college
services that are not funded provincially.
Textbooks
Text Availability
Required texts and the latest available pricing are available via
Book Search. Every possible effort is made to ensure text listings reflect
current prices; however, prices are subject to change.
The Instructional Materials Centre inventories and returns unsold texts to vendors
every term. It is advised that students buy required texts, novels, and supplemental
material before the return date to avoid having to special order purchases and pay
shipping fees.
Text Delays
Textbooks are sometimes delayed for a variety of reasons, including publisher back-orders
and out-of-print or new edition status. “Problem Notifications” are posted in each
store and on campus bulletin boards. Please check these daily postings to note courses
for which one or more texts will be delayed, the reason(s) for delay and anticipated
delivery date(s) when known.
If titles are delayed and you would prefer not to check back with us on a continuing
basis, Text Reservation forms are available at all stores. Simply
complete and submit this form to our Campus Stores staff, and they will place a
reservation request on your behalf with our warehouse. Stores staff will advise
you by phone or e-mail when requested titles arrive.
Reservation requests may also be submitted if a Campus Store is out of stock on
a title that is available at another NIC store or in our warehouse. Transfer arrangements
will be made, with delivery normally within 1 to 3 days following receipt of such
requests.
Distance Learners may contact any NIC store to arrange for purchase
and delivery of their required texts. Shipping charges apply, except where arrangements
are made for orders to be picked up at an NIC campus or centre. All orders must
be prepaid, and staff will advise of the total cost when your needs and shipping
preferences have been established
