Community Science Celebration: Science World at NIC

Join NIC and Science World British Columbia for a Community Science Celebration at NIC's Comox Valley campus.

This free community event will include eye-popping shows, demonstrations and challenges, along with an opportunity to meet people in the community doing cool science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) every day.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with NIC to bring this Community Science Celebration to Courtenay,” said Jo-Ann Coggan, director of community outreach for Science World. “It is a showcase of the community for the community and will profile local businesses, organizations and innovators. Science World will provide fun, dynamic science experiences for the whole family as part of this event.”

The event at NIC will include exhibitors, chemistry demonstrations, such as screaming gummy bears and Dr. George’s “Flaming hands of Death,” as well as multiple hands-on demonstrations in biology and physics.

“It will be a great day for kids to come and explore a wide range of science activities for kids of all ages,” said Michael Willers, NIC department chair, math and science. “It will show kids the range of cool and interesting things they can study in the sciences.”
