Virtual Student Coffee Hang-out Session

Moose Hide campaign co-founders Paul and Raven Lacerte are hosting a live Facebook event on May 19th at 10:00am PST. This will be an opportunity to learn about the history of the campaign and how it has evolved into one of Canada’s most important social movements. The event will also include some exciting Moose Hide Campaign announcements! Paul and Raven are looking forward to engaging with participants: answering questions about the work of the campaign, listening to your comments and suggestions, and talking about how we can all work together to end violence against women and children.

Self-Care Tips

Avoid substance use – including smoking and vaping, caffeine and alcohol

Some people use substances, including smoking or vaping, to cope with stress, anxiety and depression. This may appear to help reduce stress initially, but in the long run can make things worse. The brain and body develop a tolerance to the numbing effects of these substances, and people have to compensate by using more and more. That leads to additional harms and often delays the recovery from the stress. Moreover, in those at risk, substance use can lead to an addiction or a relapse in those who are in recovery. If you are in recovery and experiencing stress, it is important to reach out for help before a relapse occurs.  In general: 

  • Reduce or stop using any non-prescribed substance if you can do so safely. 
  • Take prescription medications as prescribed. 
  • Try to reduce or avoid caffeine and alcohol.
  • Seek out professional help if you cannot do it alone.

School of Business Online Meeting Business students who want to connect with someone in School of Business can now speak with Ali Mayboudi, Instructor, Business Administration. BlueJeans Tips

Many of you will be using BlueJeans to attend classes in a virtual format. Here are some important tips and reminders.

  • Do not have access to a cell phone or computer? You can call in to a BlueJeans meeting with your phone.
    • If you are calling from inside Canada use this toll-free number: 1.778.807.4955
    • If you are calling in from outside of Canada use this toll-free number: 1.866.599.3622
  • Note: if you are calling from within Canada and you use the 1-866 number you will be charged long distance fees.
  • Similarly, if you are calling from outside Canada and use the 1-778 number you will be charged.

Healthy Eating

Ravioli lasagne

Serving: 4

Prep time: 15 minutes

Cook time: 1 hour 10 minutes

Level: Easy

Ingredients

  • oil, for frying
  • 6 sausages (we used Italian sausages with herbs and fennel)
  • 2 x 400g cans chopped tomatoes with garlic & basil
  • 200g baby spinach
  • 500g spinach & ricotta ravioli (or any flavour you like)
  • 75g mixture of grated cheddar and mozzarella

Instructions

  1. Heat a drizzle of oil in a pan. Squeeze the sausagemeat from the skins and fry until browned, using a wooden spoon to break it up. Add the tomatoes and half a can of water and season. Simmer for 20 mins.
  2. Meanwhile, put the spinach in a colander. Pour over boiled water from the kettle to wilt. Leave to cool, then squeeze out as much of the excess water as you can.
  3. Heat the oven to 200C/180C fan/gas 6. Spoon a third of the sauce into a medium baking dish (about 18 x 20cm). Top with a third of the spinach and a third of the ravioli, then scatter over some of the cheese. Repeat the layers twice, making sure the final layer of ravioli is nestled into the sauce. Bake for 35-40 mins until bubbling and hot all the way through. Cover if the top starts to get too dark. Will keep in the freezer for up to two months
