NIC launches online winter orientation

New and returning NIC students will be welcomed to the Winter term with an updated virtual orientation.

Orientation is an important way to provide all the information and resources students will need to be successful in their studies, and also to encourage connection between students.

Following Fall’s digital orientation, this year’s Winter orientation includes updated videos, webinars, tours and other resources.

“We received a lot of great feedback from our first virtual orientation which launched in August,” said Dean Martin, manager, student life. “This updated orientation for Winter includes new resources and videos in response to feedback from our recent student survey and will help to answer a lot of the questions we received from students this past term.”

The resources include videos from all of NIC’s student services and supports including accessible learning, counselling, academic supports, student technical services, the Library and Learning Commons and student employment services.

“There is a wide range of services and supports available at NIC to help our students succeed,” said Martin. “This virtual orientation provides a one-stop resource for students to see what’s available and ‘e-meet’ the staff who are there to support them.”

The pre-recorded sessions are available online now, to give students the opportunity to check out the videos in the weeks leading up to term.

Along with the pre-recorded sessions, a series of live sessions will be held the second week of January including tips on navigating NIC’s digital learning platforms and tips on how to have a successful term. Students can email studentlife@nic.bc.ca to register for any of the live sessions.
