NIC 2020 Student Retreat - Everyday Heroes

Building community through mental well-being

This two-day event is an opportunity for students to gather in a fun, safe environment to learn more about supporting mental health in yourself and others.

The retreat takes place at Camp Homewood on beautiful Quadra Island and will be facilitated by NIC Student Leaders, faculty and staff.

The retreat is open to all students. You’ll learn strategies to support your mental health and ways that you can support the well-being of those around you. This retreat is an opportunity to use community building strategies to support mental health and well being in yourself and on our campus.

Taking part in the retreat will also help make NIC a better place. As part of the retreat, we’ll gather your anonymous feedback on how NIC can better support students’ mental health and well-being. We want to identify proactive steps the college can take to build a stronger sense of inclusivity and connectedness on our campuses, as well as how the college can improve mental health services and support. NIC’s Student Leadership Team will use your input to create and present a report to the Senior Education Team at NIC.

Registration is open now! The cost is $30 per student, including bunkroom accommodation, food and training. Students are responsible for their travel to and from Quadra Island and can contact Rachel Birch for carpooling options. Students should bring their own toiletries, towel, bedding/sleeping bag, pillow and outdoor clothes.

To sign up, fill out an application form and pay the registration fee at any NIC registration office. Space is limited — don't wait!
