Students' Union

If you’re a student at North Island College, you’re already a member of the North Island Students’ Union, or NISU. Membership starts when your first course fees are paid and ends after the last term of registered study.

Formed in 1991, NISU offers robust student representation. As part of the Canadian Federation of Students, they advocate for student interests and rights at the local, provincial and national level. They are a democratic student organization that provides services, advocacy and coordinates campus life at NIC. NISU regularly hosts social events and fantastic barbecues at the Comox Valley, Campbell River, and Port Alberni campuses.

Stay connected and visit NISU on Facebook, via the NISU App, or at the official NISU Website.

Students’ Union activities are coordinated by an executive that includes appointed representatives from each of NISU’s elected campus councils. Council elections take place between September 15 and October 31 each year. All current students are eligible to run and vote in the elections.

College Committees

North Island College welcomes student representation on both the Education Council and Board of Governors. Students are elected for one-year terms. Elections for these positions are held regularly.

Education Council has two main functions:

  • to advise the Board on the development of educational policy, and
  • to set policy related to programs and services.

The Board of Governors is responsible for the overall governance of the College. Board members work for the benefit of the College as a whole.

For further information, visit the local campus in September and request candidate information and nomination forms.
