Keyboarding

Keyboarding assessments are available at campuses in Campbell River, Comox Valley, Port Alberni and Mixalakwila.

The assessment can be completed with NIC remotely online or on campus.

Hospital Unit Clerk Keyboarding Assessment

  *   NIC Applicant: Fee $15

  *   Requirement is 50 wpm with three errors or less on a 5 minute timed writing.

  *   The assessment consists of producing one acceptable five-minute timed writing in 30 minutes.

  *   The format is online. You will read a passage on the screen and type the text below the passage.

  *   You may make as many attempts as you wish in 30 minutes and the backspace key may be used during the testing.

  *   Bring picture ID and your assessment fee receipt to the testing session. You must pay the assessment fee at Student Services by calling 250-334-5000. Assessment clerks cannot accept payment.

  *   Test results are valid for two years, as per NIC Policy 4-13.

External Keyboarding Assessment

  *   Fee $45 + tax

  *   The assessment consists of producing one acceptable five-minute timed writing.

  *   You may make as many attempts as you wish in 30 minutes and the backspace key may be used during the testing.

  *   The format is online. You will read a passage on the screen and type the text below the passage.

  *   A letter indicating your words per minute on one acceptable timing is provided at the end of the testing session.

  *   Bring picture ID and your assessment fee receipt to the testing session. You must pay the assessment fee at Student Services by calling 250-334-5000. Assessment clerks cannot accept payment.

  *   Test results are valid for two years, as per NIC Policy 4-13.
