I began my career as an accountant in San Diego, California. Due to a desire to explore different cities, I made my way up the west coast working for large accounting firms in San Francisco, Seattle and Vancouver.
I became a cross border tax consultant and had my own tax practice for many years while living and working from my home in Tofino (sadly, I am not a surfer, but I do love the outdoors). I moved to the Comox Valley in 2004 and in 2006 began teaching a few courses at North Island College while maintaining my tax practice.
After a brief stint in Vancouver from 2008 to 2010, where I worked at KPMG, I returned to the Comox Valley to teach at NIC on a full-time basis. I have always enjoyed my work, but found that I wanted to teach accounting more than I wanted to continue to practice accounting.
My experience working for large accounting firms and running my own practice helps me bring real, practical experiences into the classroom. While at NIC, I have worked on several different college committees and have served a term as Faculty Representative on the Board of Governors.
