Robin holds 2 Red Seal Journeyman certificates as an Electrician and Electronics Technician, as well as his Alberta Master Electrician certification.

He has worked in a variety of positions within the communications, electrical and electronics industries. From servicing consumer electronics to deploying rural broadband internet systems, he continues to be inspired by the integration of technology in our everyday lives.

“One of my passions in industry was to mentor apprentices working with me, and it was a logical next step to graduate to teaching”.

Robin comes to NIC from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) where he was instrumental in developing and building the Makerspace. “My fascination has always been the interconnection of electronics with the physical world, and in a Makerspace, the ideas and projects that the students bring to life are amazing. A makerspace can introduce anyone to technology such as 3D printing, CNC routing, Electronics Fabrication, and the most important part is the networking and connections with make with others in the space”.

“I am excited to see the continued merging of electronics and electrical systems such as home and building automation, and the folks that install much of that are electricians”.

“The Electrical Foundations Harmonized program not only give the students the theoretical knowledge they need to succeed but the practical skills that make them employer ready”.
