Field Schools

International study abroad field schools - monestary

Field schools allow you to have an immersive experience while travelling and studying with other students and faculty leads. Because field schools are typically much shorter than exchanges (usually 3 to 5 weeks), the cost of participation is usually significantly less than an exchange.

Upcoming Field Schools

North Island College's Office of Global Engagement is excited to announce two field school opportunities for students (travel permitting):

  1. Japan: a 10 day Field School to the coastal city of Wakayama, in Japan's Kansai Region. Fishing, Indigeneity and the Asia Pacific will take place in 2023.
  2. Hawaii: a 10 day to share language learning experiences and engage in a cultural exchange with Kapi'olani Community College in Honolulu, Hawaii. This Indigenous Language Fluency Field School took place in May 2022. New dates to be announced soon.
It’s hard to put into words how extraordinary an experience it was. Anyone who has the opportunity to do a field school should do it. You learn so much, not just about another culture, but about yourself. It was life changing.
Raeanne Akers, NIC Social Services diploma student, who travelled to the Philippines with one of NIC’s field school opportunities.
