Borsos, a resident of Mayne Island, BC and Athens, Greece, has exhibited nationally and internationally, including in the US and Europe.
“Having Jeremy join our series is a great privilege,” said Sara Vipond, series coordinator and NIC Fine Arts + Design department chair. “Few art careers are as varied and multi-faceted as his, so this should prove to be an interesting evening.”
Borsos’ work uses various media to explore artefacts and the ways they are used to interpret the past, as well as mental capacities of memory and forgetting.
Along with his wife Susanne, Borsos has constructed multiple homes and ancillary buildings on Mayne Island using salvaged historical architectural elements.
Their restoration work, treated in a practice similar to archeological sites, results in a journey of discovery not just about the buildings themselves, but the former occupants and the times in which they lived.
Their other work includes the restoration of apartments in Berlin and Athens and the 1927 "Blue Cabin", which is now a floating artist's residency in Vancouver. The couple have also begun rebuilding two stone ruins on an island in the Cyclades.
Borsos worked in the motion picture industry before enrolling at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in Vancouver in 1983. He later relocated to New York, where he attended the Art Students League to study classical media. He returned to Canada in 1987 and has worked as an artist ever since.
Borsos is set to speak from 6:30-7:30 pm at the Stan Hagen Theatre on the Comox Valley campus. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.
