NIC kicks off school year Sep. 4 in the Comox Valley

NIC is hosting its annual Orientation Day Tuesday, Sep. 4 from 9 am to 3 pm to kick off to the new college year.  All NIC students are invited.

NIC is inviting college students to its Comox Valley campus on Tuesday, Sep. 4 to start the school year with success.

The annual Orientation Day event takes place at each NIC campus to welcome students, staff and faculty back to campus. Classes will begin the following day.

“This year’s Orientation Day at the Comox Valley campus promises to be fun, engaging and informative,” said Danielle Hoogland, NIC student recruitment officer. “The goal is for students to meet and connect with each other, staff and faculty as well as community resources.”

The Comox Valley campus is welcoming more than 1,000 students this year, studying a wide variety of programs, including business, fine arts, health and human services, tourism, trades, university studies and upgrading.

NIC human services graduate David Dawson begins the day with First Nations drum welcoming, followed by bannock, coffee and tea.

The college will offer campus tours, a community marketplace, featuring DJ Lady K and representatives from NIC services and community organizations. Students will also have the opportunity to win prizes, take part in scavenger hunts, games and a free BBQ lunch served by NIC faculty and staff.

“It’s a combination of fun activities and important information they need to know to set them up for success throughout their time at NIC and beyond,” said Hoogland.

In the afternoon, students can participate in workshops to help them prepare for the upcoming term including student technical support, an introduction to the Library& Learning Commons, peer tutoring and financial support. The workshops will also be available throughout the month of September.

Although classes begin Sep. 5, registration is available for prospective students until Sep. 13.

Anyone interested in applying can go to or call 250-334-5000 to speak with an educational advisor.
