NIC raises Pride flag - Comox Valley campus

North Island College proudly raised the rainbow flag at its Comox Valley campus on July 24 to support LGBTQ students, employees and community members on Vancouver Island.

NIC President John Bowman and Jake Awai, a transgender nine-year-old whose mother works at NIC, raised the flag during a short ceremony on campus.

This is the third year NIC’s Comox Valley campus has raised the flag in honour of Pride week. The college will also raise the Pride flag for the first time at its Port Alberni campus on Wednesday, July 25.

Staff at the Campbell River campus also celebrated their first Pride Week this year, with their own flag raising on June 22.

The flag raising is part of Comox Valley Week of Pride and coincides with municipal flag raisings and Pride events all week long.
