NIC students and faculty to raise Pride flag

Join NIC faculty, staff and students on Aug. 24 at noon to raise the Pride flag in recognition of LGBTQA rights and diversity.

On Aug. 24, join NIC students and faculty to raise the Pride flag to support diversity in the community.

The ceremony will take place at noon in front of Discovery Hall at NIC’s Comox Valley campus, following a short public presentation.

Last year, the college joined the City of Courtenay, Town of Comox, Village of Cumberland and CFB Comox in raising the Pride flag in an historic first for the Comox Valley.
This year’s ceremony marks the continuation of that tradition in recognition of diversity and LGBTQA rights.

“Raising the pride flag at our Comox Valley campus is an example of how we contribute as educators to important community events and dialogues such as Comox Valley Pride,” said NIC acting president Lisa Domae.

NIC’s Diversity Matters Working Group will embark on a series of town hall-style meetings with staff, faculty and students this fall. The aim will be to hear about their experiences on campus and study how to make NIC a more inclusive place to study.

A strategic priority in NIC’s Plan 2020 is fostering an open, organizational culture that supports and celebrates diversity and learning.

The flag raising is set to take place at noon outside Discovery Hall at NIC’s Comox Valley Campus. All are welcome to attend this community event.
