Academic Edge is a new initiative being launched through NIC’s Youth Academy, which aims to support grade school students by offering unique learning opportunities in the summer months.
This summer, the Academic Edge tutoring program will provide a face-to-face, small group learning environment, ideal for supporting student’s individual progress and academic success. Safety protocols are in place to ensure proper physical distancing requirements are maintained while students are in class.
“We know this has been a challenging few months for students, parents and teachers,” said Ali Sandholm, NIC youth outreach liaison. “We’re pleased to offer this additional support for students this summer to help them prepare for fall.”
Tutoring is available in math, science, English and French immersion for students in grades 7, 8 and 9. The tutoring sessions will review the key curriculum foundations learned in the 2019-2020 school year and prepare students for their next grade. Each tutoring session is three weeks in length and includes two, 2-hour lessons per week and will be lead by certified teachers from the local area.
“We’re very excited to be able to bring local teachers and students to our campus and provide a space for them to connect and also learn more about NIC,” said Sandholm.
The first session will run July 13-30. A second session may run in August if there is high enough demand.
