NIC and the Comox Valley Project Watershed Society are partners committed to working to promote and execute environmental stewardship efforts in the Comox Valley.

The current high priority community stewardship project, Kus-kus-sum, involves the purchase and restoration of the decommissioned Field Sawmill site on the Courtenay River at 17th Street. The goal is to return the former sawmill site, a harmful environmental eyesore and dilapidated concrete and steel landmark to a natural state.

Kus-kus-sum was launched on September 21, 2017 and now, NIC students, staff and faculty are being invited to learn about the project and to become involved to help make it a success.
