Meet employers at NIC’s 7th annual Career Fair

Find your next job and meet more than 35 of the region’s top employers at NIC’s 7th Annual Career Fair this month.

The free public event takes place Wednesday, March 8 at the Florence Filberg Centre in Courtenay from 12:30 to 3:30 pm. Everyone is welcome.

“NIC’s Career Fair is a chance for people to learn about current employment opportunities directly from employers," said Anita Budisa-Bonneau, NIC's coordinator of work integrated education. "It’s an invaluable opportunity to network face-to-face and showcase your skills to employers in one location.”

More than 35 employers from leading health care, education, finance and trades employers will attend, including Island Health, CIBC, McDonald’s, Chartered Professional Accountants BC and the Canada Revenue Agency. The fair also includes community organizations and industry experts such as Volunteer Comox Valley, the Comox Military Family Resource Centre and the Industry Training Authority of BC.

The fair provides opportunities for students and community members to showcase their skills, research careers and make employer connections in their chosen field.

Karissa Anne Martin is a second-year accounting student in NIC's Bachelor of Business Administration degree. She is looking forward to the event as she prepares for summer employment.

"Participating in mock interviews, meeting employers and attending networking events such as NIC's Career Fair is confidence boosting,” she said. “It connects me to my future and reinforces my goals.”

In recognition of International Women’s Day, this year’s event also includes a Women-in-Tech seminar at 1 pm with an opportunity to learn about opportunities in technology from Paris Gaudet, the executive director of Innovation Island. The BC Labour Market Outlook Forecast predicts above average growth for BC’s technology and science occupations, with 75,600 expected job openings from 2015 to 2025.
