For decades, North Island College has been helping students begin their academic journeys close to home. But meeting students where they are at, sometimes means helping them continue their educational journey beyond the regions the college serves.

Through a wide range of university studies and transfer pathways, NIC provides students the flexibility to explore subjects, build prerequisites and prepare for degrees across BC, Canada and beyond.

The college’s pathway and transfer programs have grown over time. In 1985, NIC signed one of its first transfer agreements with BCIT for nursing. By 1989, the launch of the BC Council on Admissions and Transfer (BCCAT) strengthened student mobility across the province, with NIC part of that system from the start. In the years since, NIC has developed partnerships with several institutions such as UBC, UVic, VIU, Royal Roads and Emily Carr University of Art + Design, offering guaranteed or preferred admission for eligible students.

Today, NIC students can choose from a wide selection of transferable courses in subjects like business, computer science, math and more. Whether focusing on a single discipline or exploring many, they can build personalized transfer plans, with support from educational advisors, and do so at their own pace.

As we celebrate 50 years of learning, NIC’s academic pathways and university studies continue to open doors and create opportunities, no matter where students want to go next.
