Overview

Awi’nakola, meaning "we are one with the land and sea," combines in-class instruction with land-based cultural learning. Instructors use Kwak’wala and Kwakwaka’wakw teachings to inform academic learning, focusing on student strengths and nourishment for their spirit. Classes focus on student strengths and language to nourish their spirit and work at their level.

You'll learn:
  • Classes in English and Math (individual levels to be determined).
  • Basic Kwak’wala conversation, structure and pronunciation.
  • Land-based activities such as seasonal cultural activites, cedar weaving, traditional food and medicine gathering and community visits.
