Erik Hardin is a Journeyman Carpenter, Red Seal endorsed who has a background in both
the commercial and residential construction industries. As a young man he launched
his career while operating a vibrant contracting company, focusing primarily on small
                              residential contracts.

His career led him to the commercial construction industry where he was able to gain
a variety of experience on both small and large projects. From building gas stations
to expansive treatment centers and mercantile centers where he became a foreman and
lead hand. The practical knowledge he attained during this time was quite varied and
comprehensive including surveying, site layout and grading, concrete formwork and
flatwork, framing, siding, roofing, building science, through to finishing and cabinetry.

After many years in commercial construction , Erik returned to residential construction
as a Site Superintendent for a mid-sized home builder in Edmonton, Alberta, building
upwards of 100 homes per year. There he was in charge of scheduling, estimating, and
most other aspects of home construction, all the while putting on his tool belt and
carrying around tool boxes in order to get the homes completed on time and to a high
                              level of quality.

Eventually Erik’s career led him to an opportunity to join the ranks of higher education
at N.A.I.T. Although trained in Alberta, Erik has many roots on the West Coast dating
back several generations; from Prince Rupert, Kitimat, Texada Island, Nanaimo, to
the lower mainland. Erik was very fortunate to earn the opportunity to develop and
deliver the first Carpentry apprenticeship program at the new Trades Building in the
Comox Valley, where he strives to deliver top quality programming and to pass on some
of his tricks of the trade.
