For North Island College students, March means the opportunity to apply for hundreds of awards to support them during their studies.

The application period runs from March 1 to the end of April. Current, future or graduating students can apply to the NIC Foundation using a single form that allows them to be considered for any of the more than 500 awards each year.

As the title of the NIC Foundation’s most recent Impact Report, “Making Waves Together,” suggests, these financial awards are made possible each year because of the contributions from people in North Island communities, which leave a lasting impact on hundreds of students.

“We are deeply thankful to our donors for all they do,” said Melanie Nagy, executive director of the NIC Foundation. “The generous support they provide makes the awards program possible, which empowers students and helps them financially pursue their education.”

The awards not only help NIC students with the costs associated with their post-secondary education, they also inspire confidence within the students, who know there are people in the community who want to help them succeed.

In turn, recipient Ryder Bryant hopes to inspire other young people and leave a lasting impact through his chosen career.

“I’m deeply grateful for this legacy bursary, which is helping me pursue my dream of becoming a high school counsellor,” said Bryant. “I am working toward a pathway that finally aligns with my strengths and passion to support youths who feel unseen.”

Last year, the NIC Foundation was able to distribute $1 million through the awards program, and this year, it is expected to exceed this amount.

The application form can be found online at foundation.nic.bc.ca/students. There is also information on all awards and their criteria, how to apply eligibility, timelines, preparation, the notification process and answers to common questions about the process.
