As part of the Future 50 Legacy Match campaign the North Island College Foundation (NICF) is proud to present a workshop, revealing the power of legacy or planned giving. Legacy donations are often arranged through wills or estate plans. They can include cash, or assets, to be awarded long after the donor’s lifetime. To help with understanding the intricacies, the workshop will feature two experts who are also NIC Foundation Board members, Shane Landreville and Nicole Deters.
Deters is a Professional Financial Planner, Licensed Insurance Agent, Senior Investment Advisor and Estate and Trust Management Specialist. She believes in the strength of proper planning.
"Thoughtful estate and financial planning aren't just about protecting your assets today. They’re intentionally shaping tomorrow,” Deters says. “By incorporating charitable giving, like legacy donations into your plan, you create a ripple effect that extends beyond yourself.”
The workshop highlights the long-term impact of legacy donations to NIC Foundation’s Future 50 Legacy Match campaign.
“Legacy giving turns your values into opportunities that echo for decades," Deters illustrates.
The event will also explore effective strategies for charitable contributions, offer insights into trusts and emerging trends in philanthropy. Those in attendance will be offered the chance at a draw, for a free will made by Shane Landreville.
Landreville practices law as both a solicitor and litigator with a focus on estate, tax, trust, corporate and commercial law. He knows the influence and benefits legacy giving possesses.
"Legacy donations provide opportunity year after year, long after the initial gift is made,” explains Landreville. “When a donor helps with the financial burden or with tuition costs through a legacy gift, students can dive deeper into their passions, achieve more and ultimately give back to their communities with greater confidence."
The upcoming session of the Future 50 Legacy Workshops is on March 12th at the Campbell River campus of NIC. The presentation will focus on tools and strategies for charitable giving during your lifetime and after. Other elements consist of real-life examples of legacy in action and how to align your values with lasting impact. The event will take place between 1:30 and 3:00 p.m.
Reflecting on the workshop’s role in fostering legacy giving, Landreville emphasizes the significance of community involvement and supporting NIC Foundation’s mission.
“Legacy giving transcends personal generosity and becomes the enduring ripple that strengthens bonds, inspires action and uplifts generations long after life has passed. This becomes a positive change for the students, their families and our region for generations,” he says.
