This nine-day program involved students with community-based climate action initiatives in Costa Rica. They visited a women-led cooperative leading sustainable farming practices and worked with youth-driven environmental movements. Participants gained hands-on experience in fostering low-carbon, climate-resilient solutions. The program explored Costa Rica’s diverse approaches to conservation and sustainable development. They visited Indigenous communities, renewable energy projects and a turtle conservation initiative.

Students explored how inclusive climate actions empower vulnerable groups, including women, youth and Indigenous Peoples. By connecting with local leaders and stakeholders, this program emphasized tangible solutions and community ownership as the key to advancing climate resilience and sustainability.

Objectives
  • Explore how grassroots initiatives contribute to Costa Rica’s leadership in sustainability. The focus will be on renewable energy, forest conservation and sustainable livelihoods.
  • Analyze the importance of inclusive community engagement in addressing climate change. The focus will be on vulnerable populations such as women, youth and Indigenous Peoples.
  • Equip participants with the tools needed to contribute to climate action in their own communities. Lessons learned from Costa Rica’s example will be integrated.
