Retirement & Pension

NIC offers generous employer-sponsored defined-benefit pension plans to provide a lifetime retirement income for our employees. The College and Municipal Pension Plans are administered by the BC Pension Corporation. Employee contribution rates vary between plans and NIC also contributes to the pension plan on behalf of eligible employees.

Health & Wellness

Wellness and Staff Events & Activities

NIC is committed to supporting the health and wellness of all its employees by offering the following services through its Employee and Family Assistance Program:

  • Short-term counselling for issues such as depression, relationships, addictions, anxiety, life transitions, grief and stress.
  • Life Smart coaching services that addresses topics such as nutrition, smoking cessation, parenting, elder care, financial, legal and career.
  • Online health courses

NIC also offers a number of wellness activities and events to help promote a healthy and engaged campus community. These include a recognition event in the winter and an annual celebration event in the spring. The college also hosts “Thrive NIC,” a mindset and a week-long series of activities focused on helping everyone at NIC explore their path to mental health.

Aquatic & Fitness Centre

Conveniently located on our Comox Valley campus employees have easy access within walking distance to enjoy the amenities of the Comox Valley Regional District Aquatic Centre and Fitness Studio.

Employee Professional Development

NIC offers our employees numerous annual professional development opportunities, distributing funds in accordance with collective agreements specific to each employee group. We encourage and promote a culture of life-long learning throughout our college community, and make continuing education accessible to everyone.

Family Friendly Benefits

NIC employees enjoy a variety of family-friendly benefits including generous top-up for maternity and parental leaves, a partnership with a child-care center on our Comox Valley Campus, generous paid time-off benefits, and tuition waivers.

On-Campus Child Care Centre

Located on NIC’s Comox Valley Campus, Beaufort Children’s Centre provides licensed group child care with a capacity of 54 children. The centre operates year-round, Monday through Friday, from 7:30a.m. to 5:30p.m. NIC employees are given a priority for admission (after NIC students), as space permits. Tuition Waivers

NIC offers Tuition Waivers to waive registration fees for college credit and evaluated continuing education course taken by an employee or members of a faculty family (spouse and children).
